Victor Erice's bewitching "poem of awakening" is set in a Spanish village in 1940, in the wake of the country's civil war. Six-year-old Ana (Ana Torrent) becomes obsessed with the world of myth and imagination when she attends a traveling movie show of "Frankenstein", an experience that alters her perception of the world around her.
