Active Shooter + Stop the Bleed Training - April 2018

Active Shooter – Learn How to Prepare

In an on-going effort to keep its residents safe, the City of Chula Vista will host another Active Shooter Preparedness and Response presentation. Last year, the City hosted two well attended Active Shooter presentations which include a Stop the Bleed training aspect.

CERT (Community Emergency Response Team), a division of the Chula Vista Fire Department, and the Chula Vista Police Department will hold the event on Monday, April 16, beginning at 6 p.m. in the Chula Vista Council Chambers at 276 Fourth Avenue. Presentations will be given by the Chula Vista Police Department, the Chula Vista Fire Department, and CERT members.

At this free event, participants will learn how to prepare for an active shooter situation. An active shooter is an individual engaged in killing or attempting to kill people in a confined and populated area; and in most cases, active shooters use firearm(s). Active shooter situations are unpredictable and evolve quickly. Typically, the immediate deployment of law enforcement is required to stop an active shooting. Because active shooter situations are often over within 10 to 15 minutes, before law enforcement arrives on the scene, individuals must be prepared to deal with the situation.

Participants will also learn how to help others after an active shooter situation. In many cases, victims need someone to help stop the bleed and that person might be you. Learn how to control or stop the bleeding until help arrives.

Registration is required for this event with a maximum attendance of 175. While open to the public, some of the presentation may be too graphic for those under age 12.  Remember, if you see something, say something!
