“Remembering Our Fallen” is a war memorial that consists of individual state and local exhibits created to remember those service members who gave their lives in the line of duty since September 11, 2001. Unlike most war memorials made of brick and mortar, these are designed to travel so that more people can have the opportunity to remember our Fallen while being reminded of the tremendous cost of our freedom. Its legacy is that these men and women will be remembered and their names will be spoken.
The mission to create an exhibit for every state began in 2011, and is expected to be complete by 2016. At that time, all 50 exhibits will be brought together for a National Tour. Until that time, the completed exhibits remain in their home state and travel to hometowns of the Fallen and other communities, often enhanced by Legion or Patriot Guard Rider escorts and opening ceremonies.
The California exhibit exhibit includes military and personal photos of the 77 fallen heroes who called San Diego home, including 14 from the South bay.
