New Home Decarbonization Working Group Public Forum

The City of Chula Vista New Home Decarbonization Working Group started meeting in July 2021 to discuss how to remove carbon pollution from new construction. In their most recent meeting, they voted on a draft recommendation to City Council to adopt an ordinance to remove natural gas from all residential and most commercial new construction.

Now the working group would like to hear from the you in their public forum on July 27 from 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm at the Civic Center Library (365 F St). Working group members and city staff will be on hand to talk about the decarbonization recommendation and the other options considered though posters and a presentation that will start at 4:30. Additionally, there will be a survey residents can complete in person or online.

City Council acknowledged the crisis in the Climate Emergency Declaration they approved earlier in 2022, stating “a global climate crisis exists and poses a serious, urgent and pressing threat to the well-being of Chula Vista, its inhabitants, economy and environment, and therefore there is need for immediate actions to address the global climate crisis.” Removing fossil fuels from new construction would be a concrete and timely action.
