The Orange Crate Derby is a wonderful family event that's been a tradition in Chula Vista for over 35 years! Kids, ages 7-14, race in home-built, wooden, gravity powered cars down Rancho Del Rey Parkway. Spectators are welcome!

Saturday, August 27th is a practice day for children to have cars inspected for safety and to practice going down the race course. Sunday, August 28th is the actual race day. Children complete in age groups and it is a double elimination event. There will be community race cars for children that do not have a car, plus the Police Activities League sponsors children from low income areas of the city.
