Class Description:
This 32-hour course provides information and develops skills required to perform and hold firing operations on wildland fires and prescribed burns. This course contains two days of classroom and two days of live fire exercises in the field.The students will be engaged in firefighting and firing operations and should be physically prepared to the NWCG arduous standard. This course meets and exceeds the objectives of the NWCG S-219 Firing Operations course.
Prerequisites:
- S-290: Intermediate Wildland Fire Behavior (online NOT accepted), which must be submitted to firetraining@chulavistaca.gov after your online payment to secure your place in the class. Certificate must be received within two (2) days of payment.
- Required pre-course work will be sent to student via instructor
- Students must possess the arduous level of physical ability per NWCG guidelines and be in excellent health. Students are required to perform hotline wildland firefighting using hand tools while carrying 40 pounds of back pumps or drip torches in hot weather.
Hosted by the Chula Vista Fire Department Training Division and the San Diego County Training Officers Association. Instructor is Pete Scully and regional CA-219 instructor cadre. Students will receive a State Fire Training certificate upon successful completion of entire course.
Note: Class details as follows: June 10-13. 2024, 0830 – 1700 hours. June 10 and 11 in classroom, June 12 and 13 field exercises. (Contingency back up live fire dates are June 20 and 21, if we are unable to burn on June 12 and 13.) Field Exercises will be in Chula Vista and location will be given to students in class.

Target Audience: Currently affiliated with a public safety agency.
Registrants have sole responsibility to communicate event information to their agency supervisor / liaison. Tuition is non-refundable if a cancellation by Student is received within 14 days prior to the class start date.
