Foster Care Program | Become a Foster Parent!
The Foster Care Program is designed to give animals, a chance to thrive in a loving, temporary home until they are or can be adopted through the Chula Vista Animal Care Facility.
- Foster parents provide specialized care that certain animals need.
- The Foster Care Program gives the community an opportunity to get involved and help the Animal Care Facility.
- Hundreds of animals go through the Foster Care Program ever year. With help from foster parents, these animals got a second chance. And foster parents really enjoy caring for their foster animals -- so everyone benefits!
Which animals go into foster care?
- Nursing mothers and their babies.
- Animals that are too young to survive on their own.
- Young animals still too small to be spayed or neutered.
- Animals being treated for medical reasons or those recovering from medical procedures.
- Animals in need of a home environment, training, enrichment, hospice, or other special needs.
What does a foster parent do?
- Foster parents provide animals with care, attention, training, and a loving home.
- Foster parents bring the animals back to the Animal Care Facility for appointments and check-ups.
- Foster parents provide the Animal Care Facility with fun and vital information about the pets they fostered, that will be passed on to the new adopters.
What is provided to foster parents?
- All necessary supplies and training to care for the animals they foster, including food, formula, litter, heating pads, pet carriers, crates, bowls, pans, etc.
- The Animal Care Facility provides all veterinary care and medicines. Staff will schedule all check-ups and appointments.

- Not only can you save the lives of so many need animals, your efforts will be appreciated by the people who permanently adopt them.

Click here to fill out our online Foster Care Program Application. With your completed application, please include -in your own words- why you feel you would make a great foster parent, and what type of animal you are interested in fostering.
Upon review of your application and essay, you will be contacted by staff to schedule an in-person interview at the Animal Care Facility.
