I lost my pet.

If you lost a pet in Chula Vista, Lemon Grove, or National City, please search online for pets at 24 Pet Connect. All animals at the Animal Care Facility are updated on the site hourly. If you would like to check in person, please schedule an appointment here.

When your pet is missing, it is imperative that you check the Animal Care Facility and the suggested methods (below) daily.

If you believe your pet is at the facility, we recommend coming the soonest you are available. Pets reunited within 24 hours of arrival at our facility are granted a one time waiver for fines and most fees (this could be FREE if your pet is microchipped and licensed in Chula Vista or has a current rabies for residents of contract cities.)

Please check our hours and location.  You'll need to bring a leash with you (for a dog) and any proof of ownership you may have, as well as a government issued photo ID.

Where to look:

Listed are some of the most common and helpful ways to find your lost pet. Often, community members may find and post found animals in an attempt to reunite without adding the stress that shelters can invoke.

Next, we recommend you contact your microchip company to ensure your pet's microchip information is up to date and list your pet as lost.

Check with neighbors within a 2 block radius. An average of 70% of lost dogs were found within 1 mile of their home. Create posters and hang within the 1 mile radius, ensuring good contact information and a photo are shown.

I found an animal.  What do I do now?

If you’ve found a lost pet wearing a City of Chula Vista license tag, you can call the number on the back of the tag to report them as found, or can use the 8-digit code on the tag to easily file a Found Pet Report online with HomeSafe

Always check for a chip! This can be done at shelters and veterinary clinics. If a chip is found, but is not registered you can use sites like the AAHA to determine registration information. This provides another chance at reunification.

If you are unable to locate an owner, we recommend you schedule an appointment for drop off for dogs here  and sick/injured cats here. Following national guidelines, we recommend leaving healthy free-roaming cats in their environment as they are statistically more likely to find their way home. Healthy cats are being cared for and removing them may be taking them away from their family as many residents choose to let their cats outside, especially during the day.
