About the Justice, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (JEDI) Effort
The City of Chula Vista is proud of and strengthened by its diverse communities, as one of the largest employers within Chula Vista and as a service provider to our residents, businesses, visitors and customers. To further advance the City’s efforts in creating a more inclusive and equitable community, culture and workplace, the City of Chula Vista has embarked on a deliberate process that coordinates and collaborates with all city departments, all levels of city staff and our community in the development of strategies and recommendations to create a Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (JEDI) Action Plan. This action was approved by the City Council on June 13, 2022. The staff report, presentation and supporting information can be viewed here.
As part of the first phase of this JEDI journey, the City and its consultant, Tribesy, have held 19 focus groups and interviews with city staff, eight community workshops and four community roundtables with collectively over 100 community members participating in-person and virtually. In summer 2023, the City formed its first volunteer JEDI Guidance Council comprised of staff volunteers from each city department. The JEDI Guidance Council meets at least monthly and is working together to draft a why statement, definitions and a vision that will be shared extensively within the organization and entire community. A look at the key milestones of Chula Vista's JEDI journey are shown below.
