Make a Plan

Your family is not always together, and you may not be together when an emergency occurs. Creating a family disaster plan helps your family learn and understand how to respond to an emergency.  A family disaster plan guides your family through different situations, identifying how you will contact one another and how you will reunite.

Build a Kit

https://www.ready.gov/build-a-kit

An emergency supplies kit (or a go-kit) is a collection of basic supplies that will help you survive for at least three days if an emergency occurs.  It is recommended to have an emergency supplies kit for each location that you spend long periods of time (i.e. home, car, and work).  It is important to build a kit that is unique to your needs.

At a minimum, your kit should include:

checkbox image Water: One gallon per person, per day
checkbox image Food: Three day supply of non-perishable items. Protein bars, canned fruits and vegetables (plus a can opener), nuts and crackers
checkbox image Radios, flashlights and extra batteries
checkbox image Cellphone chargers
checkbox image First aid kit
checkbox image Sanitation items/toiletries
checkbox image Tools to turn off utilities
checkbox image Copies of important documents in a waterproof container (in at least one kit)
checkbox image Necessary medications (readily accessible)
