All volunteers and interns age 18+ are required to undergo a thorough background check process, including fingerprinting. Additionally, pursuant to the California Public Resources Code 5164 (PRC5164), the City of Chula Vista cannot hire or permit a person to volunteer or perform services at a City-operated park, playground, or recreational center used for recreational purposes, in a position having supervisory or disciplinary authority over any minor, if that person has been convicted of certain crimes. In addition to the background check, individuals interested in volunteering or interning in positions covered by PRC5164 must complete a criminal questionnaire prior to performing any service for the City of Chula Vista.
Many City departments use volunteers and interns depending on the time of year, projects and priorities, and overall need. Applications for internships and volunteer opportunities are reviewed on an as-needed basis by the various City departments. Submitting an application is not a guarantee of placement. Applications for volunteer opportunities and internships will be kept on file for six months. If you have not been placed in a volunteer position or internship within six months, your application will be purged from the system. Please be aware, submitting multiple applications does not increase your chance for placement. Multiple application submissions within a six month period will be deleted from the system. Certain departments with unique assignments or requirements utilize department-specific applications.
