Community Policing Unit

The Community Policing Unit has oversight of the Homeless Outreach Team, the Community Relations Team, and Community Liaison Officers. In addition, the Community Policing Unit focuses on identification and problem solving in relation to series-related crimes, as well as quality of life issues throughout the community.
Homeless Outreach Team

The Homeless Outreach Team's mission is to reduce homelessness in the City of Chula Vista and the region by finding long-term, supportive solutions for homeless individuals and families through outreach, community education, community partnership and multi-disciplinary collaboration.
Community Relations Unit

The Community Relations Unit provides residents, businesses and visitors access to the department through public safety information and programs. Additionally, this unit works to increase the community's confidence in its police department by sharing ideas and solutions to crime and disorder issues.
Community Liaison Officers
Community Liaison Officers (CLO) serve as a direct conduit between the department and the community to build productive relationships and relay the needs and expectations of community members.

The primary responsibility of the Traffic Unit is to make the streets of Chula Vista as safe as possible for citizens and visitors traveling by foot, bicycle or motor vehicle. The unit provides training at public functions such as schools, senior centers and special interest groups. The Traffic Unit investigates traffic collisions, follow-up on hit and run collisions, enforces traffic rules and regulations as they pertain in the Municipal Code and the California Vehicle Code.
Special Events
The Special Events Unit is responsible for ensuring that all special events held within the City of Chula Vista comply with the city’s special events requirements and are permitted through the city’s office of communications. The unit reviews all event permit applications, schedules, staffs and supervises police personnel during the event.
Senior Volunteer Patrol (SVP)

The Chula Vista Senior Volunteer Patrol was established in 1994 and comprised of formal trained, uniformed volunteers, 50 years of age and older. Members perform such services as commercial district foot patrols, vacation house checks, vehicle abatement, handicapped parking enforcement, and traffic control. Senior Volunteer members also assist with crime prevention programs and special events.
Street Team & Gang Suppression Unit

The Street Team is a directed enforcement team which concentrates on community-oriented policing and proactive strategies to address crime and disorder issues. They focus primarily on more sophisticated, patrol-based investigations and series-related crimes. The team is also responsible for the identification and documentation of street gang members in our community.
School Resource Unit

The School Resource Unit is comprised of Chula Vista law enforcement officers that function as School Resource Officers (SRO). SROs are assigned to Chula Vista elementary, middle, and high schools with the goal of creating and maintaining a safe, secure and orderly learning environment for students, teachers and staff.
